The ratio, no poetry
BMI is kg divided by height in metres squared.
Height 5 ft 6 in.
5 times 12 is 60 inches, plus 6 is 66 inches.
66 times 0.0254 is 1.6764 metres.
Square that, about 2.810.
78 / 2.810 is about 27.76.
I say 27.8.
Usual adult chart, under 18.5 underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 so called normal, 25 to 29.9 overweight, 30 plus obesity band.
27.8 sits in overweight on that chart.
Asian cut-offs some doctors use are tighter.

Why 5.6 is a messy way to say height
In India we say 5.6, 5.8, 5.10.
5.10 is 5 feet 10 inches, not 5 and one tenth feet.
5.10 as a decimal foot would be 5 feet plus 0.1 foot, about 1.2 inches, a different person.
So I never type 5.10 as a single decimal in a feet field if the field is true decimal feet.
This tool uses feet and inches separate.
Good.
If you only have a decimal feet box somewhere else, 5.6 decimal feet is 5 feet plus 0.6 times 12, 7.2 inches, almost 5 ft 7.
But the speaker meant 5 ft 6.
One inch changes BMI a little.

Treat it as estimate of a ratio, not a diagnosis.
I say estimate because rounding of height changes the second decimal.
27.76 vs 27.8, nobody should change their week over 0.04.
If the form needs one decimal, 27.8 is the usual.
If the form wants two, 27.76 or 27.8 depending how they compute 1.676 vs 1.68.
1.68 squared is 2.8224, 78 / 2.8224 ≈ 27.64.
Already a small drift.
So I dont fight a office form that says 27.6.
I fight a office form that says 32 because someone used 5.6 metres.
