We were still at the table when the waiter put the leather folder down.

2,860.

Four names.

Someone already opened the UPI app.

I said wait.

Equal split is 715.

That part is easy.

Tip, and the one person who only had water, those two are the fight.

I dont solve the friendship.

I solve the divide.

Then I let them argue the water.

Equal split, I do this first even if they will reopen it

2,860 divided by 4 is 715.

No leftover paisa.

Nice bill.

I type 2860, people 4, tip 0 on split bill calculator.

Each 715.

I send the number in the group.

If they accept, I pay my 715 and I stand up.

If they dont accept, I still keep 715 as the baseline.

So everyone can see how far we are drifting.

Service charge already on the bill, I do not add tip on top unless the group wants to.

Some bills have 10 percent service printed.

Then 2,860 already has it.

Tipping again is a extra love letter to the restaurant.

Fine if you mean it.

Not fine if you did not see the line.

I scan the GST and service lines before I type the total.

I type the grand total, the last fat number.

Not the food subtotal, unless we agreed to split only food and one guy pays tax.

That agreement must be said, not assumed.

Delivery fee, pack charges, I include if we all ate the delivery.

If one person ordered a extra dessert later, we do two runs.

Run A, shared 2,860.

Run B, dessert on one head.

This version of the tool is equal only.

Unequal means two runs, or a notebook.

I said that on the tool page also.

I repeat it here because every dinner has a water person.

Tip percent, when the group actually wants it

Tip 10 percent on 2,860 is 286.

Pot becomes 3,146.

3,146 / 4 is 786.50.

I say about 787 each if we round up.

Someone will pay 786, someone 788, UPI will look ugly.

I dont care.

I care that we typed 10, not 100.

100 percent tip doubles the night.

Funny once.

Not funny on a office night.

Tip 5 percent is 143.

Pot 3,003.

About 750.75 each.

Tip 0 I already did, 715.

I ask the table once.

I dont run a survey.

If two say 10 and two say 0, we are back in friendship land.

Math cannot save that.

I pick 0 and let the generous ones add after, on their own UPI, to the waiter.

Cleaner than forcing 10 on the guy who had water.

worked example

Picture is 2,860, 4 people, no tip.

₹715 each.

I like this picture because the divide is clean.

Then I type 10 in tip and show 787-ish.

Two screenshots in the group is better than a speech.

If GST confusion starts, I point at the printed total.

How much GST is inside is for pulling tax out of a inclusive number.

You dont need that to split.

You need the total.

Splitting after removing GST is a hobby.

I dont do hobbies at 11 pm.

The water person, and other uneven animals

He had water.

He had two rotis from someone else plate.

He says 200 max.

Food was 2,860 because three people ordered kebabs.

I cannot put 3.2 people in the box.

I can put people 3, total 2,860, if the water person is out.

Then each of the three pays about 953.

Water person pays 0, or pays a soda if he had one.

Or I put people 4, then the three send the water person a refund of the gap.

715 minus 200 is 515 extra that the three ate.

515 is not divisible by 3 clean, about 172 each extra.

So kebab three pay 715+172 = 887.

Water pays 200.

3 times 887 is 2,661, plus 200 is 2,861.

One rupee, I eat it.

This is why I brought a notebook in my head.

The tool did the 715.

I did the ugly part on the side.

If two groups, couples, I run people 2 on half the bill if they ate equal-ish.

They never ate equal-ish.

Still, some tables want couple wise.

I dont judge.

I judge when someone already UPI'd 2,860 to the restaurant, then we split.

Then we pay him, not the restaurant.

I remove that person from confusion by saying, pay Rahul, not pay the QR again.

Double pay is a classic.

I have done it.

I was tired.

Alcohol on one name, food on all, I do two totals if the bill allows.

If the bill is one lump 2,860, we estimate the booze line.

Estimate, not official.

The restaurant will not reprint for our morals.

Four people, one left early and paid 700 already.

Remaining 2,160 on 3 people, 720 each.

I type 2160 and 3.

I do not type 2860 and 4 then try to subtract 700 in a group chat essay.

New numbers, new run.

Small leftover, rounding, and the ride home

2,861 / 4 is 715.25.

Someone pays 716.

I volunteer if I chose the place.

If the bill is 2,860 on 5 people, 572 each.

Still clean.

6 people, about 476.67.

Two people pay 477, rest 476.

I dont write a policy.

I write who rounds up.

If we also split the 240 km petrol, I keep two threads.

Dinner 715.

Fuel separate.

Mixing into one UPI of 1,200 something is how nobody remembers next month.

I use the tool because my brain after salt and soda is not a calculator.

Boxes: bill total, people, tip.

I look at each share.

I say this is equal split estimate of the paper total.

Not a court order.

If the restaurant added a extra dessert after we divided, new total, new run.

Dont patch 90 rupees in five different chats.

One new screenshot.

I will not invent a official service charge circular.

Your city, your hotel, your printed line.

2,860 / 4 is 715.

Tip and the water person are the fight.

I came to do the 715.

I stay if they want the ugly version, but I make them say the rules first.

A office lunch that was not 2,860, same boxes

Last month the canteen parcel bill was ₹640, three people.

I still opened the same tool.

640 / 3 is about 213.33.

Two paid 213, I paid 214.

Tip 0.

Nobody had a water story.

That is the easy night.

I keep telling cousin, 2,860 is just a fat example.

Type your total.

Type your head count.

The 715 is not a law.

If the restaurant added a cover charge of 200, and it is already inside 2,860, do not add 200 again.

If cover is extra cash to the waiter, that is outside the tool.

I add it after, then I may rerun with 3,060 if we want that cash also split.

3,060 / 4 is 765.

I show both, 715 paper, 765 if cover joins.

Group picks.

I dont pick for them after 11.

App delivery, bill 2,860 including rain fee.

Same total box.

Rain fee is not a moral item.

It is in the number.

Hotel buffet, 2,860 for 4 already, sometimes they print per person 715 on the menu.

Then the tool is just a check.

Menu 715, bill 2,860, it matches.

If menu 715 and bill 3,100, look for drinks.

Drinks are the usual gap.

I still dont invent a official luxury tax line.

Printed total wins.

I go home when the UPI ticks match the screenshot.

That is the only success I count.
