Offer letter day.

He saw 6,00,000 and started a 50,000 lifestyle in his head.

6,00,000 / 12 is 50,000.

That is CTC math, not bank math.

I told him, six lakh CTC is not 50,000 in hand.

PF and tax eat a slice.

I show a rough month.

I killed the 50,000 dream first

CTC is the company's cost.

It can hold your PF, their PF, gratuity, insurance, a bonus they will pay in March if targets smile.

The credit in your account is after employee PF, after tax they cut, after professional tax if your state does that.

Employer PF is in CTC.

It is not in this month's UPI.

I said that twice because he kept adding employer PF back like a gift.

Open take-home salary calculator.

This is an estimate, not an official figure.

The three boxes I fill for 6 lakh

Yearly CTC.

I put 600000.

Six lakh.

Indian commas 6,00,000 in speech.

Basic as percent of CTC.

Default on this site is 40.

I leave 40 if he does not have a breakup yet.

40 percent of 6,00,000 is 2,40,000 yearly basic.

Monthly basic about 20,000.

Professional tax / month.

Default 200.

If his state does not take it, I put 0.

He is in a PT state this year, I keep 200.

Calculate.

On this page, employee PF is 12 percent of that basic.

Employer PF is 12 percent of that basic too.

Tax slice follows the same new-regime estimate as the tax tool.

Standard deduction style cut in the background, 75,000 estimate.

Rebate style cut can make tax nil at this CTC.

Rough monthly take-home I got is 45,000 with those defaults.

Yearly employee PF 28,800.

Yearly employer PF 28,800, in CTC, not cash.

Estimated yearly tax + cess 0 under this estimate.

Professional tax / month 200.

So 50,000 became 45,000 in one minute.

He went quiet.

worked example

Why 45,000, in slow words

Yearly CTC 6,00,000.

Minus yearly employee PF 28,800.

Minus yearly employer PF 28,800.

Minus yearly tax 0 in this run.

Left 5,42,400.

Divide by 12, 45,200.

Minus 200 PT, 45,000.

That is this site's recipe.

Your offer can use a different basic percent.

If I move Basic as percent of CTC to 50, basic yearly becomes 3,00,000.

PF both sides become 36,000 each.

Monthly take-home drops, I saw 43,800 with PT 200.

Higher basic, higher PF, lower in-hand.

Some companies keep basic lower for that reason.

Some keep it higher for PF and other rules.

I dont pick his structure.

I type what the letter says.

If the letter is silent, 40 is a placeholder.

Not a law.

Tax can be nil here and still not be your March story

This take-home page uses the FY 2026-27 new regime estimate, same family as the tax tool.

At 6 lakh, after they subtract employer PF and that 75,000 estimate, taxable sits far under the rebate line this estimate uses.

So tax + cess can show 0.

Payroll might still cut some TDS in early months and adjust later.

Variable pay might arrive in one month and look like a festival.

Bonus inside CTC makes the monthly average look richer than April to January.

If bonus is yearly and not monthly, I tell him to mentally take it out of CTC for a safer month number.

Or live with a lumpy year.

I dont promise his Form 16.

I dont promise a 100 percent match with the bank credit.

The credit has LWF, food card, transport, a one-time recovery, whatever HR invented.

This box has CTC, basic percent, PT.

Three things.

Professional tax, the small bite

200 a month is 2,400 a year.

Not the villain.

The villain in his head was 50,000 versus reality.

Still, 200 is real in some states.

If he wants the argument of whether take-home should include it, I already wrote should take-home include professional tax.

On this page, it includes PT only if you type it.

Maharashtra and a few states, people know this cut.

If he puts 0 and his slip has 200, he will say I lied.

I did not lie.

He typed 0.

I put 200 for our 45,000 story.

PF both sides, so he stops double counting

Employee PF leaves the salary.

Employer PF leaves the CTC pool but not his account this month.

It goes to the PF account.

I send him PF employee and employer both sides if he wants that split in more words.

For a 25,000 basic month, the cut is a cleaner story, basic 25,000, how much PF is cut.

At 40 percent of 6 lakh, basic is 20,000 a month, employee PF 2,400 a month.

12 percent of 20,000.

That is the slip line I want him to find.

If his company still uses a 15,000 wage ceiling for PF, the PF can be 1,800.

Then in-hand looks better than this tool.

This take-home page does not offer a ceiling switch.

It takes 12 percent of the basic it built from CTC * percent.

If his PF is capped, this estimate is a bit harsh on in-hand.

I say that.

I dont hide it.

What I dont put in Yearly CTC

I dont put monthly in-hand.

That is circular.

I dont put only basic.

I dont put last month's credit.

I put the offer CTC.

If joining bonus is extra and not in CTC, I keep it out, so the month stays honest.

If joining bonus is inside CTC, the average month is a lie for 11 months.

I warn him.

Insurance the company pays, I leave inside CTC if the letter has it, and I accept in-hand will look smaller than a naive 50,000.

That insurance is a real cost, just not cash he can spend on a scooter.

Gratuity provision, same feeling.

He cannot UPI it.

Boxes one more time

Yearly CTC, 600000.

Basic as percent of CTC, 40 unless the letter says another percent.

Professional tax / month, 200 or 0.

Calculate.

Read Rough monthly take-home.

Read Yearly employee PF.

Read Yearly employer PF (in CTC, not cash).

Read Estimated yearly tax + cess.

Read Professional tax / month.

If tax is 0, dont announce "I am tax free forever".

Announce, this estimate showed 0 on this CTC with this recipe.

Official portal still wins if he later files.

If he wants only tax on a yearly number, use the tax tool, not this.

This one is a monthly mix.

I told him to rent a house on 45,000 math, not 50,000 math.

He said he will try.

He still opened a shopping app.

I cannot fix that with a calculator.

If next year CTC becomes 7,20,000, I change Yearly CTC.

I do not keep 6,00,000 and guess.

Same three boxes.

New number.

New monthly.

The 45,000 from this page is for this 6 lakh run only.

Dont tattoo it on a locker key.
