He is switching jobs after 7 years.
HR said wait for the letter.
He wanted a ballpark tonight.
I said last salary times 15/26 times 7.
HR may still use a different month count.
I will not pick a fake rule number to sound official.
He tried CTC first, I stopped him
Last drawn basic plus DA.
Not CTC.
Not in-hand.
Not the offer of the new company.
If last basic + DA is 40,000, that is the usual example on this site.
His was near that.
I opened gratuity calculator.
This is an estimate, not an official figure.
The two boxes
Last basic + DA.
I put 40000.
Years of service.
I put 7.
This box uses the years you type.
Many firms round 6 months up.
This page does not auto-round.
If he has 7 years 2 months, I still type 7 unless he knows HR will take 7.
If he has 6 years 8 months and HR rounds up, he can type 7 to peek.
That peek is not a promise.
Calculate.
I got about 1,61,538.
The formula people use is 40,000 × 15/26 × 7.
15/26 is about 0.5769.
Times 40,000 is about 23,077.
Times 7 is about 1,61,538.
I dont treat that as an HR letter.
I treat it as a tonight number.
Why 15/26, in cousin language
Fifteen days of wages for each year.
Wage taken as last basic + DA.
Month taken as 26 days in this common private-job talk.
So one year is 15/26 of last monthly salary.
Seven years is seven of those.
Some older contracts use another day count.
This tool uses 15/26.
If his appointment letter is a museum piece, HR wins.
Government job, their rules are different.
Dont use this as final there.
I said that.
He is private sector, 7 years, we continued.
Five years talk, because he asked
For most private jobs under the usual Act story, people say you need 5 years.
Death or disability cases can be a different human story.
I am not his lawyer.
He has 7, so the 5 year gate is not his panic.
His panic is the rupee.
If a friend left at 4 years 10 months and got nothing, that friend is not his case.
Dont mix them.
This box will still compute 4.5 years if you type 4.5.
A number coming out does not mean he is eligible.
Eligibility is HR and the law, not a JavaScript multiply.
I keep that sentence ready.
Cap, tax, and other things this box skips
Law has a ceiling that moves over years.
This box does not apply a cap.
If his formula number is huge, a cap might eat it in real life.
7 years at 40,000 is not huge in that way.
I still mention the cap so he dont think we are the last word.
Tax treatment of gratuity is a separate question.
I dont run tax on this page.
If he wants a rough tax feel on salary, that is the tax tool.
If he wants PF while he is still working, basic 25,000, how much PF is cut or PF employee and employer both sides.
Gratuity is the goodbye number.
PF is the monthly parking.
Different pockets.
His 7 years is not always 7 on paper
Break in service.
A contractor to payroll flip.
A company rename.
Two legal employers in one building.
HR may count 6.
Or 7.
I cannot see his master data.
I type 7 because he said 7 years job.
If the relieving letter says 6 years 11 months, the box should say what HR counts, not what his LinkedIn counts.
LinkedIn is poetry.
HR is the arithmetic.
If he wants a range, I run 6.5 and 7 and 7.5.
Last salary same 40,000.
6.5 years, 40,000 × 15/26 × 6.5, about 1,50,000.
7.5 years, about 1,73,077.
Tonight he can live between those if the month count is the fight.
Still not a letter.
Other last salaries, same 7
30,000 last, 7 years.
30,000 × 15/26 × 7, about 1,21,154.
50,000 last, 7 years.
50,000 × 15/26 × 7, about 2,01,923.
I ran these so he sees it scales.
Double the last salary, double the gratuity, years same.
Dont type CTC 12,00,000 in Last basic + DA.
The result will look like a lottery.
Then he will book a holiday.
Then HR will send 1.6 lakh.
Family WhatsApp will blame me.
I refuse that blame in advance.
Last basic + DA.
Monthly.
What I never say on this call
I never say 100 percent match with bank or HR.
I never quote a circular number I invented.
I never say the money will hit on last working day.
It can take time.
I never say tax is zero.
I never say tax is definitely there.
I say, rough Payment of Gratuity style number, 15/26, years you typed.
Confirm with HR.
If he is leaving without 5 years, I say the box can still multiply, eligibility is the real gate.
If he died in this hypothetical, I stop the joke.
Not a joke topic.
A leaving month that is not clean
Last month can have leave encashment, a recovery, a notice shortfall.
That messes last basic on the slip.
I still ask, what is the basic + DA they will use for gratuity.
If he does not know, I use the last normal month.
I say it is a tonight guess.
If they use an average of last few months, this box will not do that average.
Type one salary.
One years figure.
That is the whole UI.
Last basic + DA.
Years of service.
No notice-period box.
No leave box.
No tax box.
People try to stuff those into Years and then the rupee looks cursed.
Dont.
Keep years as service years.
Keep salary as monthly basic + DA.
If he got a hike in month 83 of 84, last salary is the hiked one in the usual talk.
I dont fight HR if they use another average.
I show 40,000 × 15/26 × 7.
He can carry that to the meeting.
Fill, screenshot, wait for HR
Last basic + DA, his last figure, 40000 in my demo.
Years of service, 7.
Calculate.
Read the rupee.
Compare to last × 15 ÷ 26 × years, on paper if he trusts paper more.
If paper and box fight, he typed a yearly salary or a CTC.
Fix the box.
For a full leaving picture he also wants PF withdrawal talk and last take-home.
Take-home is CTC 6 lakh, what is take-home if that was his band.
Gratuity is this page.
Two tools.
Two moods.
I told him to keep the 1.62 lakh as a ceiling of hope, not as a booking amount.
He said he will wait for the letter.
That is the first wise thing he said all evening.
